Stereo Stickman | Music Review of RAIN
April 2018
Choirs of soft gospel-inspired pop wash over the listener while under the melodic spell of Rain, the new single from Chioke Dmachi. Chants fill the air, hovering above rounded, African-style drum hits that come in and quickly fade out – grabbing the ear’s attention before a rich influx of harmony pours in.
Dense chords follow Dmachi’s voice, hitting each note like a drop of fire to create warm undertones for the vocally rich song. The beat drops at around 40 seconds into the track, adding extra energy to the soothing and lingering refrain. Syncopated cymbal strikes imitate the sound of rain, random yet still altogether predictable in the scheme of rhythmic balance. One hears the honesty and longing within Dmachi’s delivery (Just give me more, emphasis on the more) as he shows off a lovely range and the choir repeats rain, a reflection of literal rain’s cozy litany.
The drums fall out at crucial points in the song to again give attention to the vocal harmony in the back and certainly the front, coaxing any listener deeper into the melodic depths. The entire production unites to create a calming effect. Depending on the setting, the song could convince someone to stand up and dance, or sit back and daydream; a curious but refreshing duality. https://stereostickman.com/reviews/chioke-dmachi-rain/

RAIN by Chioke Dmachi
April 11, 2018
A solo artist who meanders through a handful of styles that keep you drawn to the music he makes Chioke Dmachi is a songwriter at the center of playing a unique voice filled tune with dramatic pitch ranges. The performance on the single “Rain” is garnished with a dose of lofty melodies that brings us to a time of noted sessions racking our brains in the form of good sounding music.
The song is able to traverse and go over and beyond multiple pace changes. If you manage to strip away every piece of instrument and leave it a bare back you can hear distinctively the delivery and intense melodies that build up towards the climax. For most of us music nerds who have seen countless upon countless number of singles, Chioke Dmachi is an artist who is able to freely play and fuse different sounds knowing what to do and when to jump in on the song.
To be sure that Chioke Dmachi has written a wonderful song you get to see his confidence with solid vocals driven at its core with the uttermost sincerity. I hope that the artist with each new song that he releases that the listener will be able to get a little bit more of an understanding of the artist’s creative process. The song is refreshing enough to cause a stir in my ears as the whirring synths and crisp, insistent pads generate an irresistible groove. CHIOKE DMACHI MAKES EXCITING POP MUSIC THAT TAKES YOU IN UNEXPECTED DIRECTIONS. CHECK OUT "RAIN" FOR A CREATIVE SONIC EXPERIENCE. WE ASKED CHIOKE 3 QUESTIONS ABOUT HIS MUSIC AND INFLUENCES. HERE ARE HIS ANSWERS:
WHO ARE YOUR BIGGEST MUSICAL INFLUENCES AT THE MOMENT?
Pop music artists have always been my biggest influences. My favorite pop artists have always inspired me to be bold, to be sexy, and to just be me. To obliterate the rules, create my own niche and be my own style. Artists like Prince, Michael Jackson, Janet, Bowie, Beyonce, and Missy Elliot continue to to inspire me with the power of their expression. There is a super long list of brilliant artists that are all a part of the fabric of my creativity.
WHAT IS YOUR SONGWRITING PROCESS LIKE?
When I least expect it, I find myself inspired. My beloved muse visits me whenever and wherever it feels like. It’s 3am I wake up singing a melody and lyrics, fumbling to find my phone to record them into my voice memos. Or it’s the middle of rush hour traffic on the 405 and I’ll find myself bursting with lyrics to write down. https://modernmusicmaker.com/interviews/chioke-dmachi-interview
